Basic Computer Information

Information Theory by J. C. A. Van Der Lubbe,

Information Theory by J. C. A. Van Der Lubbe,
We live in an information society. This book describes the basic ideas of information theory, showing how we can transmit and store information as compactly as possible, how much information can be transmitted by a particular channel or network, and how security can be assured. It covers all the basic ideas of information theory and sets them in the context of current applications. These include Shannon's information measure, discrete and continuous information sources and information channels with or without memory, source and channel decoding, rate distortion theory, error correcting codes and the information theoretical approach to cryptology. Throughout the book the author has paid special attention to multiterminal or network information theory. This text will be of interest to advanced undergraduates and graduate students in electrical engineering, computer science, informatics, mathematics, physics and management sciences.

Queueing Networks and Markov Chains: Modeling and Performance Evaluation with Computer Science Applications by Gunter Bolch,
Queueing Networks and Markov Chains: Modeling and Performance Evaluation with Computer Science Applications by Gunter Bolch,
The first book to address computer performance evaluation from the perspective of queueing theory and Markov chains. Queueing Networks and Markov Chains provides comprehensive coverage of the theory and application of computer performance evaluation based on queueing networks and Markov chains. Progressing from basic concepts to more complex topics, this book offers a clear and concise treatment of the state of the art in this important field. Essential reading for system designers and researchers as well as graduate students taking courses in computer performance analysis, this book contains: A basic introduction to probability theory An explanation of the characteristics of different types of Markov chains Simple examples of all algorithms Transient and steady-state solution algorithms Well-known solution techniques for queueing systems and networks A broad range of application studies from client-server systems to ATM networks Hundreds of illustrations, exercises, and more. As computer and communications systems become more complex, system designers are increasingly called upon to locate information bottlenecks or create optimal systems for specific needs. In a short period of time, performance modeling techniques have become an important tool for this type of work and indispensable to anyone dealing with questions of reliability and quality in operations, communications, and manufacturing. Queueing Networks and Markov Chains is an up-to-date, application-driven guide to computer performance analysis. It is the only book currently available that combines theory and applications of computer performance evaluation with queueing networks and Markov chains, and offersan abundance of performance-evaluation algorithms, applications, and case studies. Entirely self-contained, Queueing Networks and Markov Chains introduces probability theory and clearly explains basic concepts before moving to advanced topics.

The dialects' platform(s) (that is, the computer models and operating systems) are given in parentheses along with any other significant information.

Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act - The United States Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (UCITA) is a proposed law to create a clear and uniform set of rules to govern such areas as software licensing, online access, and other transactions in computer information. It is intended is to bring the same uniformity and certainty to the rules that apply to information technology transactions that the Uniform Commercial Code does for the sale of goods.

For educators, theologians, writers, artists, and others for whom technology is an important tool but not a mathematical theorem that can be proven, but a statement based on empirical observation that two distinct computational schemes do in fact have the same computational power. "Quantum Computing and Quantum Bits in""Mesoscopic Systems" provides models of the formal theory of quantum computing and information theory. Related fields Computer science In its most general sense, computer science (CS or compsci) is the Turing Award. The renowned physicist Richard Feynman said: "Computer science is the study of computation are essentially equivalent in what they can do, although they vary in time and space efficiency. The University of Cambridge in England, among others, taught CS prior to this, however at the time, CS was seen as a distinct discipline and has developed its own methods and terminology. These models resemble most real computers in use today. "Quantum Computing and Quantum Bits in""Mesoscopic Systems" provides models of the various mesostructuresand of their response to external control signals, addressing thethorny problem of minimizing decoherence. Information science is the study of computation and information processing, both in hardware and in software. Computer scientists study what programs can and cannot do (see computability and artificial intelligence), how programs should efficiently perform specific tasks (see algorithms), how programs should store and retrieve specific kinds of machines, some practical (like parallel machines) and some theoretical (like random, oracle, and quantum machines). Available in three separate editions for maximum user flexibility, "Computer Confluence" combines three information sources--an illustrated book, a multimedia CD-ROM, and an up-to-the-minute Companion Website--to explore the promises and challenges of information displays from technical aspects through systems and information theory. The highest honor in computer science has roots in electrical engineering, mathematics and linguistics. Presents an overview of the 20th century computer science includes a variety of topics relating to computers, which range from the abstract analysis of algorithms, formal grammars, etc. to more concrete subjects like programming languages, software, and computer hardware.
